As grant advisor you support researchers developing and writing (inter-)national personal grant proposals, in the grant advisors team of the Research Support Office. You have academic experience in subsidy advice and writing in the life sciences.  You will work closely together with the project managers and grant advisors/writers. We look for an advisor (inter-)national personal research grants in life sciences with min. 3 years’ experience. You support and advise researchers identify relevant research funding opportunities and provide integral proposal support.

As an advisor personal research grants, you have an expert role in the team with regards to knowledge on personal funding opportunities and in the development of large personal grant applications together with the principal investigator(s). The advisor personal research grants will support the researcher with structuring the proposal and fine-tuning the content of the proposal and is responsible for translating and co-writing parts of the proposal and turning it into a successful application. Besides this “hands-on” support, organising information sessions and giving presentations and workshops and interview training on personal grants also belongs to your tasks.


The Research Office is part of the Corporate Staff of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The Research Office focuses on strategic advice on development, implementation and evaluation of science policy within UMC Utrecht. The grant advisor will become a member of the Research Support Office  within the Research Office. Our team advices on and supports the development of grant applications, innovation funding and management of awarded projects.


You have a thorough knowledge of the funding landscape for personal grants (like ERC, Veni-Vidi-Vici, MSCA, etc.). You have an academic training and/or work-experience in a (bio)medical field. You have extensive and hands-on experience in the development of complex grant applications. You have at least 3 years of grant writing and funding advice experience, which is a prerequisite. Experience with consortia grants and/or innovation grants in (inter-) national funding programmes like Horizon2020, Horizon Europe and NWO is a pre. Thorough knowledge of the Dutch and English language is required (since English is the main working language of the Research Support Office and Dutch the main language in the organisation and for certain Dutch grants).

In your work, you are:

  • an excellent writer with advanced editing skills in both English and Dutch;
  • able to prioritize and focus on results;
  • flexible and have good organizational skills;
  • able to handle multiple projects at once on a tight deadline.

The appointment is a temporary appointment, starting with a one year contract (Art.2.4.3. TC). Depending on your experience this function will be starting in salary scale 10/11.
